The Morsels of Peace: A Silent Signal and A Code for Calm

'The Morsels of Peace:
A Silent Signal
and A Code for Calm'

For International World Peace Day on 21 September 2025, I was prompted to create an artwork. I actually created two, representing two regions of the world that I felt needed peace the most.

As I thought about the people in need, I thought of them calling out for help, perhaps using the international signal, SOS, which is often conveyed in Morse Code.

Each of my two works spells out PEACE in Morse Code - hence the name 'Morsels of Peace'.  Using shattered old compact discs and DVDs (often used for communication), I wanted to show that even though something is shattered and in bits, like peace in those areas, it can still become something beautiful and hopeful.

One of the regions I immediately thought of was Ukraine, so I created 'A Silent Signal' in the colours of the Ukraine Flag.  The partner piece, called 'A Code for Calm', was created in the colours of Palestine.  I am thrilled that this has already found a new home, with someone who has direct connections to the area, and colleagues still working there.
